ABOUT CASA

 Give a Child a Voice...Support Henrico CASA

Sine 1994, Henrico CASA volunteers have played a vital role in children's lives.  The advocates ensure that children's needs come first!  All children have a right to safe, loving homes; however, over 45,000 children were reported as being abused and neglected in Virginia last year.  Twenty-six children died as a result of their abuse.  Many of these children came to the Court's attention.  Their only "crime" is that they have been victims of abuse and neglect.

Henrico CASA volunteers give each abused child a strong independent voice within the juvenile court process.  They are community citizens whole sole mission is to seek what is best for the child.  They work alongside attorneys and social workers who are tasked with many roles and responsibilities.  Giving a child a CASA volunteer provides a child with the hope that they will find a safe, permanent home and have a strong voice throughout the process.

In 1990, the Virgina General Assembly recognized the important impact CASA volunteers have on abused and neglected children in communities across Virginia and dedicated funds to CASA Programs through the Department of Criminal Justice Services.  The funds only begin to address the budgets of local programs.  Please become a partner with Henrico CASA to ensure that all children referred by the court can have an advocate to speak for them!

Without Henrico CASA, abused and neglected children will continue to be underrepresented in the Courts, missing the critical interaction and guidance of trained volunteers who advocate for what is best for them.

"To my CASA kids I say...hang on, don't give up...your past does not determine your place in life.  You will make it because someone does care.  Being a CASA volunteer is not about money, or praise or recognition.  It's about passing on hope, the kindness, that was shown to me by another, and hoping that, in turn, that person will one day be able to do the same."
